During this eighth-month learning program, participants engage in 20+ sessions and field trips, each led by content area experts.

The Civic Leadership Program trains participants in civic engagement, coalition-building, and creating systemic impact within schools and local government.

Participants learn about important leadership roles in service to schools, nonprofits, and governing bodies, as well as key issues and policies that affect our communities. The result is a strong cohort of engaged leaders, better informed and prepared to run for local office.

Modeled after School Board School, this is a FREE program for residents of Dayton, Ohio, that has been adapted by Learn to Earn Dayton to explore our community’s unique needs.

How It
Works

These experiences provide members with a deep understanding of how school districts and local governments operate and how we can work together to positively impact student outcomes. Through the program, participants will consider how they are best able to serve – either as an advocate or in their own run for civic office – whether they choose to serve on a school board, local/regional government, or other organization. This project is made possible by an investment from Blue Meridian Partners.

Matters

Too often, the people who are most affected by leadership decisions are not present at the table to share their experiences and ideas. The Civic Leadership Program empowers those who wish to serve – either as an elected official or community advocate – who may otherwise not have full access to opportunity. If you have the passion, interest, dedication, and commitment – the Civic Leadership Program can provide the information, skills, and support for you to become an educational advocate!

Eligibility
& Timelines

Eligibility: City of Dayton resident, age 18 or older Strong candidates will have a demonstrated interest in learning more about school boards and/or local offices, a track record of community service, and a focus on improving educational outcomes for students. Course Schedule

The Civic Leadership Program is a thoughtfully curated series of hands-on experiences, information sessions, and engaging field trips. Class members may not miss more than 3 sessions to be able to successfully graduate from the program, so it is critical to review your schedule before applying.
